1. Infection transmission incidents.
There has no identified infection transmission incidents in the past year.
2. IPC Audits and actions
We have completed an annual Standard Infection Control Precautions (SICPs) audit and annual Code of practice: Annual IPC Assurance Tool for general practice audit. We have used the outcomes of this audit to design our plans for infection prevention and control for the practice.
As a result of these audits these are examples of the changes we have made at the Wells Medical Practice
- Updated our Infection Control and related policies
- Identified changes that need to be made in clinical rooms for example easy access to PPE, changes to hand soap and dispensers and new bins
- We have created a new Infection control area of the Wells Medical Practice website and created a new Infection Control Notice board in the level 1 reception for service users and staff to access information
- Put up new posters around the surgery for easy access of information
In 2025 we plan to complete monthly audits on:
- Hand hygiene
- PPE
- Cleanliness
As well as an annual audit on aseptic technique and 6 monthly audits on antimicrobial prescribing .
3. Risk Assessments
We are due our annual Legionella water safety risk assessment in March 2025.
Immunisations: As a practice we ensure that all staff are up to date with occupational health vaccinations that are applicable to their role for example, MMR, Hep B and seasonal flu.
Curtains: Disposable curtains are used in all clinical rooms and are changed 6 monthly. Curtains are changed more regularly if visibly damaged or soiled.
Hand washing sinks: We have ensured there is easy access to hand washing facilities in every clinical area.
4. Staff training
All members of staff are up to date on their annual infection control training using the Invicta Health training system. New staff members have to complete infection control training on their induction.
Infection control lead nurse Robyn and link nurse Holly have completed the Infection Prevention and Control Lead/Link Practitioner Course in the past year.
There is plans for an Infection Control PLT training afternoon as well as a scenario meeting to be organised in the next year
5. IPC Policies, procedures and guidance
All infection control related policies are up to date with current advice, guidance and legislation and have been reviewed in the past year.
The Infection Control Policy has been the ‘Policy of the Month’ for February 2025 and been circulated weekly amongst all staff.
All infection control related policies are saved on an internal system for all staff to be able to access at all times.

Our Clinical pharmacist Tony Kung completes 6 monthly audits on antimicrobial prescribing in the practice. Antimicrobial stewardship policies are available.
